Understanding redirects

What’s the difference between 301 redirects and redirect rules?301 redirects are individual, permanent URL redirects (e.g., /old-product/new-product). Use these for specific URL changes.Redirect rules use patterns to automatically redirect multiple URLs at once (e.g., all /collections/* URLs). Use these for bulk redirects or when URLs follow a pattern.
301 redirects help preserve your SEO while redirect rules are more powerful for handling large-scale URL changes.

Tracked visits include:
  • 404 page visits: When someone hits a broken link on your store
  • Redirect rule activations: When a visitor triggers a redirect rule
Tracked visits do not include:
  • 301 redirect visits: These are unlimited on all plans.
Think of tracked visits as the “active work” Redirect Pro does each month to catch problems and apply dynamic rules.
Rule matches show you the actual URLs visitors accessed that triggered your redirect rules. You can review these matches and convert high-traffic patterns into permanent 301 redirects for better SEO performance and faster redirects. This is valuable for migrations, replatforming, or when you want to optimize which redirect method handles your traffic.
